David Weinberger of Atlantic Beach Rescue’s Drone Unit traveled to Israel in January and met with members of United Hatzalah of Israel (a volunteer emergency services organization based in Jerusalem) and the Israeli police to discuss drone operations.

Through Weinberger’s visit, A. B. Rescue, which provides advanced life support and both land and water rescue to Atlantic Beach and surrounding South Shore communities, aimed to gain an understanding of how drones are used for rescue missions in Israel, where drone technology is used for medical responses, technical rescue and military operations.

A. B. Rescue operates a Federal Aviation Administration approved Drone Unit. Staffed by four pilots and three visual observers, each have a FAA Unmanned Aircraft Systems pilot license. It is available for countrywide and regional response adhering to the state’s fire mutual aid plan and could be contacted through Nassau County Fire Communications at (516) 742-3300.
