Busy? Join this book club

Can’t find a book club that meets when you can? The Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library is trying to solve that problem with its new online Anytime/Anywhere Book Club. Using the website Good Reads, members will be able to take part in a discussion of the book club’s selection, any time of the day, from anywhere, on a smartphone, tablet, or home computer. The HWPL will post questions to the group and you can join in when you can, adding comments when you wish, and reading the book at your own pace.

To join the online club, create an account at www.goodreads.com, and then log in. Click on “Community” at the top of the page and choose “Groups” from the drop-down menu. In the search box, type in “HWPL Online Book Discussion.” Click “Join.” Enter your library card barcode when prompted, and you’ll receive an approval notice of your membership and the rules of the group.

The first discussion will begin Monday, May 7, with “Manhattan Beach” by Jennifer Egan. Copies of the book are available at the library. Copies are also available as Books-on-CD and as eBooks through the Nassau Digital Doorway. For additional information, contact librarian Marie Drucker at mdrucker@hwpl.org or at 516-374-1967, ext. 159.
