Longtime volunteers Dr. Andrea Golden, a dentist, and Rhonnie Fischman, along with Town of Hempstead Supervisor Laura Gillen were honored at the Center for Adult Life Enrichment’s annual luncheon at the Seawane Club in Hewlett Harbor on May 17.

CALE, housed in the carriage house of what was once the Hewlett Estate and now the campus of Hewlett High School, offers an array of programs, lectures, workshops and trips that aim to enhance the dignity of older adults and help them maintain an active physical and intellectual life. The organization is in its 69th year.

Golden, began volunteering at CALE 10 years ago and is member of the Board of Directors. She practiced dentistry for 20 years and has been a dental consultant for the past two decades.

A former French and Spanish teacher in the Lawrence School District, Fischman has kept teaching volunteering with Literacy Nassau, helping adults become more competent in English and working at Hewlett High School teaching learners of English.

Gillen, elected last November, is a lawyer who lives in Rockville Centre with her husband and four children. She is the second woman to be elected supervisor of Hempstead. As a young person, she volunteered at South Nassau Communities Hospital and Camp Anchor.
