Roughly 125 people, many of who were the boys and girls who made up the soccer teams at Woodmere Middle School and Hewlett High School and their coaches celebrated at the Hewlett Soccer Parents Soccer Association annual end-of-season banquet at the Hewlett firehouse on Nov. 8.

It was a community-supported event as the fire department donated the hall, Friendlier Italian Restaurant & Pizza in Woodmere catered and Wall’s in Hewlett “made a large cake which was completely devoured,” according to Hewlett-Woodmere Business Association President David Friedman.

Wall’s also donated cartons of Danish and Edible Arrangements in Woodmere, donated chocolate/caramel apples that were given to all attendees. The HWBA supplied the water bottles, juice, soda and promos. Sabino Vardaro, of the Hewlett-Lawrence Soccer Club donated his time and additional items.

“Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this a wonderful evening of camaraderie and fun,” Friedman wrote in an email. “We look forward to more of these events which support our local businesses and bring our community together.”

Players received recognition for their outstanding play from Rookies of the Year to Most Improved. “It really was a wonderful event,” Hewlett boys’ head coach Nick Lacetera, wrote in an email. “The location was great, the food was fantastic and all the players seemed to enjoy themselves. The gift jackets look great, I have already seen a few of the players wearing them today. It was a great way to end another successful soccer season. Thanks again to everyone involved for the countless hours and hard work.”
