Combining art and Judaic customs at HAFTR

Rabbi and pop artist Yitzchok Moully visited the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway fourth-graders and shared how he blends his rabbinical responsibilities with Torah and Judaic themes to create his artwork, which was inspired by Andy Warhol.

Using Moully’s style, the students painted canvases and when dry, used a silk screening method to superimpose a graphic on their backgrounds. Moully brought three of his designs, which included a tree of life, Shabbat candles and dancing rabbis.

Each student completed an original “masterpiece” that will be displayed at the fourth grade celebration in March. Royce Maron and Jill Goldstein coordinated the visit and helped the students get ready to be artistic.
