Lawrence Cedarhurst American Legion Post 339 Commander Syd Mandelbaum and Major Chris Komisarjervsky, of Atlantic Beach, were honored by Congresswoman Kathleen Rice (D-Garden City) at the Cradle of Aviation during the United States Vietnam War Commemoration in Garden City for their service during that conflict.

Mandelbaum, a child of Holocaust survivors, founded the Cedarhurst-based nonprofit Rock and Wrap It Up!, an “award-winning anti-poverty think tank,” according to the organization’s website company’s 27 years ago.

The nonprofit just launched its virtual Veteran’s Toolkit. It is an online resource that seeks to reduce the risk of post-service poverty for military veterans and their families.

It includes databases for “Best for Vets” colleges and employers; listings of locations for pantries, kitchens and shelters that provide free food; resources for women veteran needs; websites to research mental health needs, and up-to-date status on the January 2018 “Forever GI Bill.”
