Earning college degrees, certificates, academic honors and interning

Alexandra Gershon, of Hewlett, Ryan Kennedy, from Inwood, and Lawrence resident Ariel Steinlauf, were among the 2,769 students from across the country and 64 other nations that received degrees at the 58th New York Institute of Technology commencement in Old Westbury on May 19.

Atlantic Beach resident Sam Chaves was one of 166 students who earned degrees from Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Massachusetts at the oldest early college’s 50th graduation on May 18. Chaves received an Associate of Arts.

Bard College at Simon’s Rock is the only college in the country specifically designed for highly motivated students ready to enter college after the 10th or 11th grade. Sixty-six undergraduates received Bachelor of Arts degrees and 100 students received A.A. degrees.

Hewlett High School graduate and Lynbrook resident Emanuel Cohen, a junior majoring in music at the University of Rochester, was named to the upstate school’s spring semester dean’s list.

Among the more than 100 students that completed New York Institute of Technology’s Internship Certificate Program during the spring semester were Alexandra Gershon, of Hewlett, interned at Delargent Design, Architecture, PC in Merrick. Ari Begun, from Woodmere, worked for SDF Architect in Inwood as an intern.

Named to the spring 2019 dean’s list at Adelphi University in Garden City were: Atlantic Beach: Christopher Alianakian and Tinamarie Ciorra. Cedarhurst: Elise Chait. Hewlett: Patrick Breen, Sabina Ciaccio, Cristina Curra, Jessica Kshonz, Sean Lerner, Brianna Lombardo and David Pease. Lawrence: Katie Barrientos, Cinthia Contreras, Ekaterina Rysina and Deborah Twersky. Woodmere: Sherry Cohen, Danielle Feldman, Jenna Goldberger, Danielle Grushkovskiy, Neshama Herman, Elizabeth Munoz, Elizabeth Plaut, Jessica Silberger and Gregory Turovsky.

Student earned the honor with a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher when taking 12 or more credits.
