Enjoying an inaugural Cabaret Night

Posted

The night of March 20, was truly one to remember, as the Lawrence High School Tri-M Music Honor Society held its first-ever Cabaret Night that Wednesday. Various performance groups joined forces to perform for an adoring crowd of family and friends.

The show was hosted by Lawrence High seniors, Alliyah Pierre and Astor Singh, whose humor and effervescence were the perfect addition to the show. The night began with an inspiring performance from Life Rhythms, which is a percussion group composed of students in the special education program, lead by Dianne Ronan and Alan Katz.

Performances continued with a rocking rendition of “Livin’ On A Prayer” by the Lawrence Middle School show choir under the direction of John Watts. LHS Seniors David Monroy and Anoushka Guha’s piano and vocal duet of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, and Thomas Vairo’s version of “Fly Me To The Moon,” sweetly serenaded the audience, filling the night with joy and warmth.

Brian Stabile’s wind ensemble continued the show with dynamic performances of “Beyond the Horizon” and “Curtain Call,” followed by the middle school dance troupe directed by Lailia Sales. The dancing continued with a vivacious tap solo from high school senior and student government officer Jacqueline Blyudoy followed by a soloist voice performance by German Beltran.

The melodious voice of the Lawrence High School Chamber Orchestra conducted by Terrence Batts, carried on the show with the piece, “Irish Legend,” a timely celebration of the Irish spirit and culture. The next selection was a medley of songs featured in the Academy Award-winning film “La La Land.” The selection was accompanied by spirited choreography created by orchestra and drama club member Audrey Michlig.

Thomas Riley’s Lawrence High show choir followed with selections “Hold Me, Rock Me” and a divine rendition of Jordan’s Angels. Orchestral concert master, Lila Wright then performed a bright and skillful violin solo. A group performance of the Jonas Brothers hit “Sucker” by students Hayden Metz, Joshua Gonzalez and Tri-M Music Honor Society President David Monroy was excellent.

The LMS Drama Club presented a series of musical excerpts from its production of “The Little Mermaid.” Their youthful spirit and talent charmed the audience bringing a smile to everybody’s face. The LHS dance group directed by Sales then gave a spiritual performance, student Joseph Baracaldo did the same with a voice solo. The LHS jazz band conducted by Joel Gerson closed the show with a bang, with “Awesome Sauce” and “Nostalgia In Times Square.”

The night was augmented with delectable baked treats, snacks and warm beverages. There was also a 50/50 raffle, which was won by the Hance Family and generously donated back.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society student officers, members and a advisers worked diligently to prepare this event, and it is safe to say the fruit of their labor were greatly enjoyed. The inaugural Cabaret Night, brought our Lawrence family together to enjoy beautiful music and dancing, and each other.
