Explosives found in Lynbrook home

Lynbrook police were called to a home on Lynbrook Avenue last week after the owner reported finding explosives in the attic of the house.

According to Lynbrook Police Sgt. Ryan Hart, a Lynbrook resident found three sticks of TNT and signal flares at her new home, which is on Lynbrook Avenue between Peninsula Boulevard and Merrick Road, on April 21. Hart did not identify the woman.

The Lynbrook police arrived at the scene and the arson and bomb squad safely removed the explosives. They also evacuated neighboring houses as a precaution, Hart said.

“Under the worst conditions this side of the block could have been blown away,” said Douglas Yadanza, who owns a neighboring house. “Lynbrook police and fire departments did a terrific job of safely handling this situation.”
