Far Rockaway man arrested for North Lawrence robbery

A Far Rockaway man was arrested for allegedly robbing a woman at 7:15 a.m. on July 24 in North Lawrence, police said.

A woman, 36, was working at Petencito Latin Grill at 250 Lawrence Ave., when, Adam Berardino, 34, of Beech 25th Street entered the store and lifted his shirt, displaying a black-handled knife, according to police.

Berardino then allegedly walked behind the counter and demanded cash, while pushing and then striking the woman in the back of her head with a closed fist. She suffered substantial pain to her head, police said. He allegedly took an unspecified amount of money from the register and fled the scene. His direction is unknown direction.


After a subsequent investigation the responding police officers found Berardino in an abandoned house on Lawrence Avenue. The black-handled knife was recovered at the time of arrest. The woman declined medical attention. No other injuries were reported.

Berardino is charged with two counts of robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal trespass. He will be arraigned on July 25 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
