Hewlett and six other fire departments responded to a house fire at 927 Park Lane in North Woodmere on Feb. 3, according to Hewlett 1st Assistant Chief Jamie Lewin. The initial call came in at 5:46 p.m.

Firefighters got both residents, an elderly couple, out of the house as the fire, which began outside the house by the kitchen tore through that room, the roof and about half the house, rendering it unlivable, Lewin said. No one was injured. The Nassau County Fire Marshal said the fire was not suspicious, but has yet to determine the exact cause.

The East Rockaway, Inwood, Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Lynbrook, Valley Stream and Woodmere departments also responded.
