Five Towns posts observe Veterans Day

Lawrence-Cedarhurst American Legion Post 339 and the John J. Oliveri Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1582 in Inwood held their Veterans Day ceremonies on Nov. 11, with Post 339 recognizing veterans at Cedarhurst Village Hall and Post 1582 by the memorial at the intersection of Doughty Boulevard and Mott Avenue.

Veterans Day, once known as Armistice Day, commemorated the end of World War I in 1918, in the 11th month on the 11th day at the 11th hour, now honors all military persons who served in the U.S. armed forces.
Frank Giordonello, Alfred Landi Sr. and Joseph Mazzitelli, all deceased, were remembered by their family and friends with bricks installed by the memorial in Cedarhurst Park.

In Inwood, Post 1582 remembered all the soldiers with a few words of support for the past, present and future military personnel.
