Former Lawrence Woodmere Academy teacher arrested for sexual assault

Valley Stream resident and former Lawrence Woodmere Academy teacher Daniel McMenamin was arrested on Oct. 18 for sexual assault of student, Nassau County police said.

McMenamin, 33, of Highland Road, engaged in several acts of sexual misconduct with an underaged girl from November of 2014, when the girl was 14 until July of last year, according to police. The girl was a student at the school in Woodmere when this occurred, police said.

Police found McMenamin at his home and refused to leave, police said. His lawyer, William Jaye, became involved and McMenamin was arrested without further incident, police said.

McMenamin, has not taught at LWA in more than two years, according to Lloyd Weinstein, whose Syosset-based  law firm represents  LWA . "Lawrence Woodmere Academy does not condone or tolerate any inappropriate conduct," Weinstein said, adding he has been in contact with the Nassau County District Attorney's Office and said LWA would cooperate with the ongoing investigation.

Charged with three counts of criminal sexual act second-degree, three counts of rape second-degree, 24 counts of criminal sexual act third-degree and endangering the welfare of a child, McMenamin was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Oct. 19.

Judge Maqxine Broderick issue an order of protection and bail was set at $238,000 bond or $140,000 cash, which was not posted. His next court appearance is Oct. 23.
