Freilich runs against the wind

Lawrence resident Dr. Aaron Freilich was among the 27,042 participants who showed up at the start of the 122nd Boston Marathon on Patriots Day, this year April 16. Patriots Day commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775. Both are near Boston. It is a state holiday in Massachusetts and Maine.

Freilich said he completed his overall 30th marathon “in the worst conditions I’ve ever run in.” He said it was 35° with a 30 mph headwind and “an absolute monsoon” that dropped two inches of rain.

He in what Freilich called “my slowest time in almost 30 years,” finished the 26.2-mile endurance race in 3 hours, 47 minutes. “But the mental victory I received by triumphing over the elements far outweighed the poor time,” said the cardiologist, who works in Manhasset. “Whether I do another marathon remains to seen!”
