Playing in the Metropolitan Middle School Jewish Basketball League may not be the NBA or WNBA, but don’t tell that to the girls and boys on the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway Middle School hoops teams.
The sixth grade girls coached by Jelleah Sidney were 1-9 heading into playoffs. They then won both their games, upending Flatbush in the championship contest.
Neil Wiener’s combined seventh and eighth grade girls team recorded an undefeated 12-0 mark for the second consecutive season, and captured another title.
With a 9-1 record, the seventh grade boys coach by Scott Ferguson avenged their only regular season loss and defeated Flatbush in the championship game.
