Elissa Candiotti, a Hewlett High School alumna who graduated Syracuse University last year and now is a NBC Nightly News production assistant, ran in the 26.2-mile long New York City Marathon on Nov. 2.

Candiotti, and the other members of what was called Team Candi, raised $8,545 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. It is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease through funded research and ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson’s.

On Twitter, Candiotti called her participation “a life-changing journey” and said it was “A reminder that no dream is too big and no goal is too far. Thank you to everyone who donated to Team Candi. You made this moment possible. I am forever grateful, and forever changed.” Elissa completed the marathon in 4:29:53 and Josh finished two seconds later.
