Nearly 300 people came out to support the first fundraiser for eNVy, a non-profit that seeks to remember Nick Vacchio of Inwood while reaching the community’s struggling youth, on Oct. 20 at Mulcahy’s Pub & Concert Hall in Wantagh.

Vacchio, a Lawrence Woodmere Academy class of 2006 graduate, died last October at 24 amidst struggling with a range of mental illnesses.

Patty, Vacchio’s mother, and brother Danny launched the organization, which stands for embracing noble values for young people and highlight Nick’s initials.

The group raised almost $10,000 from ticket sales, raffles and eNVy merchandise. “This is amazing for our first fundraiser,” Patty said. “We are very pleased with the success and feedback of our fundraiser and although we plan to do small fundraisers throughout the year, we do expect this to be our largest and annual event.”

The organization’s next venture, according to Patty, includes reaching out to guidance counselors at five local public high schools in hopes of offering a $1000 scholarship to one student in the senior class at each of the five schools.
