Michael Benimowitz, a Woodmere resident of 38 years and longtime attorney, died on July 3. He was 70.

Born in Brooklyn, Benimowitz earned his undergraduate degree at New York University. He later attended the New England School of Law where he earned his law degree and eventually moved to the Five Towns.

His law practice, Michael Benimowitz Attorney, was based in Manhattan.

“He was everyone’s go to person, whether their problem was legal or otherwise,” said daughter April Mattikow. “He was definitely a one-of-a-kind person who took care of everyone.”

Mattikow remembers Benimowitz not only for being someone to rely on, but for having a great sense of humor, as his family members describe him as very funny man who could always put a smile on their faces.

Away from the office, Benimowitz’ main hobby was golf. He was a member of the Lawrence Yacht & Country Club for as long as his family can remember. It was his passion, as he loved playing with his friends.

Benimowitz served as a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Hospital Development Board, which raises money to purchase equipment for the Far Rockaway facility, for more than 10 years.

“He carefully kept the board focused on its mission and was a dedicated member and great supporter of the hospital,” said Lawrence resident Margaret Carpenter, president of the board. “His wise voice will truly be missed by all.”

Benimowitz is survived by his wife Barbara, and daughters and family April, Jamie, Ian and Jack Mattikow and Brette, Craig, Logan, Drew and Tate Steinberg.
