Mostly Cloudy New York American Water to install new pipes in Woodmere
A $570,000 project to install new water main piping along Elm and Pine streets in Woodmere began on March 5, according to New York American Water officials.
The project will replace 1,250 feet of four-inch water main installed in the early 1900s with new eight-inch ductile iron water main, officials said. The work also calls for the replacement of four hydrants and 34 utility-owned service lines.
Main replacement will take place along Pine Street from Central Avenue to Cedar Lane and along Elm Street from Broadway to Cedar Lane. That began on March 5. Each project is expected to take roughly four weeks to complete. Final street restoration will follow nearly a month after the services have been installed and pass all required tests from the Nassau County Department of Health.
“Replacement of two stretches of water main along Pine Street and Elm Street will help improve water quality, service reliability and water pressure in the area,” New York American Water Manager of Engineering John Kilpatrick state in a news release.
New York American Water will coordinate with residents along Elm and Pine streets to minimize disruptions. Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours.
