As part of the three-phase $10 million overhaul of its Emergency Department, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway will install a state-of-the-art CT Somaton Definition AS-64 Slice Siemens scanner, the hospital second scanner. The new CT scanner will provide vital information and the needed images to help treat patients, especially those who are experiencing symptoms of a stroke, along with detecting internal injuries and bleeding, diagnose muscle and bone disorders, and locate tumors, infections and blood clots. “The new CT scanner will enable our staff to treat patients more accurately and quickly, meaning improved recovery and even survival outcomes,” said Gerard Walsh, CEO of the only hospital on the Rockaway Peninsula that also serves the Five Towns.
