Tasting vacation, school voting and celebrating Israel

As the school year winds down, Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway High School students can almost taste summer vacation as the warmer spring weather has finally arrived.

This time of year brings the culmination of students’ hard work, which delivers both excitement and a sense of urgency for completing Regents and final exams. At the same time, students are taking part in HAFTR High government elections, which is always a competitive and lively race in the final days of the last semester. The entire HAFTR family joined together as we marched in the annual Celebrate Israel Parade on June 2.

HAFTR students have been focusing on preparing for their upcoming tests, however, they have luckily had intermittent distractions throughout the week, as candidates from the junior class vie for various school government positions by handing out special snacks and hanging eye-catching posters.

Students from the ninth through 11th grades campaigned in HAFTR’s government elections for president and vice president, secretary, treasurer, and grade representative. While the election is highly competitive, the contest was held in good spirit, as each student’s ultimate goal is to support each other and the entire student body.

Candidates created a fun atmosphere as they went around the school advancing their campaigns. Regardless of the outcome of the elections, HAFTR students and faculty can be secure in the knowledge that their new leaders will truly care about improving the school.

The Israel parade offered HAFTR students the opportunity to support the Jewish state and represent their school together with their classmates and families. Students always enjoy the day as they see friends from local and distant schools, and they never fail to make our community proud as they march in a dignified and respectful manner.

HAFTR students always have great energy during the entire march, contributing to the fun and lively atmosphere.
