Thanksgiving, a time to be grateful for …

Posted

As Thanksgiving approached, Lawrence Woodmere Academy students took the time to reflect on what they are grateful for. With our family-like community, it is important for us all to appreciate and share what we are grateful for with one another. In the week leading up to the holiday, for example, the junior class sold candy grams to students that could then be delivered with a note to a person that they appreciate.

After speaking about gratitude with my peers, I realized that everyone has different things that they are grateful for. I felt that it was an amazing experience to not only hear what everyone was grateful for, but to see people (even the ones having a bad day) reflect and be mindful about themselves.

I took this feeling and decided that I wanted to see what different people across LWA were thankful for. I surveyed students of various ages, as well as teachers. This is what the school community is grateful for:

Mary Sakowich, Upper School math curriculum coordinator/teacher: “I am grateful for my family, friends, and students.”

Kennar Nelson, freshman, class of 2022: “I am grateful to be able to attend LWA.”

Susan Lettieri, college guidance and curriculum director: “I am grateful for my family, nature and my students.”

Harrison Schwartz, junior, class of 2020: “I am grateful for my best friends and my family.”

Lilli Albucker, junior, class of 2020: “I am grateful for my sisters, my best friends in the entire world.”

Chloe Albucker, seventh-grader, class of 2024: “I am grateful for people’s opinions because they show people’s personalities and qualities. You can learn a lot about people through their words.”

Leyah Rhabb, sixth-grader, class of 2025: “I am grateful for a home to live in, all of my friends and family, and sports activities for me to go to.”

Larry Rhabb, junior, class of 2020: “I am grateful for a family behind me supporting me in everything I do, whether it’s academics, sports, or simply leisure. The ability to know that I can do anything and have someone to catch me if I fall is amazing.”

John Malinka, junior, class of 2020: “I am grateful for my supportive family.”

Margaret Tucker, Upper School math teacher: “I am grateful for having a job that keeps me smiling.”

Robin Roberts, Upper School English curriculum coordinator/teacher: “I am grateful for my health, my family and my students.”

Jacob Davis, senior, class of 2019: “I am grateful for friends, family, and my dreams that I am on the cusp of achieving.”

Cooper Sanders, senior, class of 2019: “I am grateful for the sport of baseball.”

Kadence Gonzalez, freshman, class of 2022: “I am grateful for the friends that I have at LWA.”

Ariel Dugue, senior, class of 2019: “I am grateful for the ability to go to a diverse school with people of different skin tones and cultural backgrounds.”

I am grateful for Lawrence Woodmere Academy, and the amazing, unique people who make it up. I am grateful for my friends, the most down to earth and creative people you will ever meet. I am grateful for LWA’s  teachers and faculty who are always there to support their students; they show us what it means to be a role model. I am also grateful for my grandpa, the most intelligent, giving person that I know.
