— Fall Festival

The Fall Festival will be held at Kennedy Plaza on Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sunday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be craft vendors, a carousel, a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo, music, hay rides and more. The Halloween costume parade begins at the Recreation Center Fields on Saturday, Oct. 13 at noon.

— Point Lookout Bird Walk

Join the South Shore Audubon Society on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for a bird walk in Point Lookout. The group will meet at Point Lookout Town Park in the southeast corner of the parking lot. The bird walk is free of charge. Walk leaders and other birders and nature enthusiasts will share their knowledge. Bring binoculars.

— Meet the Artist

Everyone is invited to “Meet the Artist,” Rob Rothman, at a reception and viewing of his past and most recent paintings on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Magnolia Community Center, 650 Magnolia Blvd., on the 2nd floor gallery. Featured are his “Laurel Dreams” with portraits of local luminaries, “This is Us” with reflections of Long Beach Life and many others.

— Groovin’ to a foot stompin’ beat

Enjoy the feel-good tunes of The Carolina Gents when they perform as part of Planting Fields Arboretum’s “Music at the Mansion” series, on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. Planting Fields Arboretum’s Coe Hall is the setting for an inspired performance by the lively ensemble, featuring some of the best bluegrass, Americana, and country musicians in the New York/ New England area. They’ll share the pure, sweet sounds of Appalachia, then crank up the hootin’ and hollerin’ on the dance floor; playing all songs with a southern twang and effortless musicality. The season of Halloween hauntings is upon us. Check out those Crypts of the Coliseum if you dare enter Blood Manor, where creepy souls now inhabit the arena. Drop by for a visit, if you think you can face your darkest fears that awaits at the frightful spectacle inside, now through Nov. 3.
