5 charged on suspicion of assault and robbery

The Major Case Bureau reports the arrests of five Hempstead men on Tuesday, May 26, at 9:35 p.m. in Hempstead.
According to police, detectives assigned to Special Investigations Squad and Robbery Squad coordinated efforts led to the arrest of:

Kevin Ramirez, 18, Clinton Street
Kevin Hernandez, 20, Jerusalem Avenue

Mitchell Hernandez, 18, Jerusalem
Avenue (no relation to above)
David Valle, 16, Front Street
Luis Calderon, 16, Front Street

On May 26, Special Investigations Detectives observed the men inside a vehicle at 135 Clinton Street passing a marihuana cigarette and arrested them. A subsequent investigation led to the defendants being charged with an assault and two robberies.

The assault occurred on March 28 at 2:30 a.m. in front of 77 Main Street, Hempstead.
The robberies occurred on Jan. 30 in Hempstead at Orchard Street/High Street at 12:01 a.m. and at Jackson Street/Clinton Street at 4:50 a.m.

Ramirez is being charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree robbery and fifth-degree criminal possession of marihuana.

Kevin Hernandez is being charged with two counts of second-degree assault and fifth-degree criminal possession of marihuana.

Mitchell Hernandez is being charged with two counts of second-degree robbery and fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

Valle is being charged with four counts of second-degree robbery, fifth-degree criminal possession of marihuana and a Petit Larceny warrant.

Calderon is being charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marihuana.
The defendants were to have been arraigned on Wednesday, May 27, in First District Court, Hempstead.
