Carey H.S. celebrates its Seniors of the Month

H. Frank Carey High School’ Seniors of the Month for January were Daniel Marini and class of 2015 salutatorian Maria Gargiulo.

School officials said that Marini “has an incredible passion and talent in math and science” and is enrolled in the Sewanhaka Central High School District’s competitive Instrumentation & Automation program. He’s also member of the national, math and science honor societies.

Marini received a perfect score of 800 on the math section of the SAT, as well as 800 on the math, chemistry and physics SAT subject tests. In addition, he attends Saturday morning classes at Columbia University for a science honors program. As president of the Mathletes, he often tutors or simply helps other students in the math department. He is an active member of the stage crew and the recycling club and also runs track. He will pursue a career in chemical engineering, and hopes to attend Columbia University.

Gargiulo’s academic excellence has been recognized with her induction into the national, science, math and foreign language honor societies. She is a talented athlete who is the varsity swim team captain and the varsity winter track captain, and also runs spring track.

She has won numerous awards as president and head delegate of Model UN and also serves as the SIDMUN secretary general. She is the class of 2015 student government representative, the historian for the student government and the National Honor Society secretary. Additionally, she is a member of 21st Century Scholars, Relay for Life, the SOS club and the I & A program. She has volunteered more than 100 hours of service.
