Firefighter Michael Kiefer, of Franklin Square, was killed in the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001. His father, Bud Kiefer, and the rest of his family, have planned a dinner dance fundraiser in Mike Kiefer’s honor for Oct. 10 at Plattdeutsche Park, 1132 Hempstead Turnpike, in Franklin Square.

The fundraiser will benefit the NYC Firefighter Brotherhood, the FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundations and the Jack Foley Hospital Fund.

To make reservations, call (516) 485-5021. Checks may be made out to FDNY FF Michael Kiefer Fund and mailed to Bud Kiefer at 714 Pine Street, FDNY FF Michael Kiefer Street, Franklin Square, New York 11010.

“Aside from being the best son any parent could have Michael. was my best friend,” his father, Bud, said. “He was a Franklin Square native who lived here all of his short 25 years.”

To honor Mike Kiefer’s memory, his family has organized a yearly dinner/dance fund raising event with a ’50s theme. Appearing on the show will be Herb Cox and The Cleftones, Don K. Reed’s “Doo Wopp Shop Live” and a special attraction: Dan Nigro, the NYC Fire Commisssioner, with special guest host Sukanya Krishnan, anchor of the PIX 11 morning news.

“I hope you see it in your heart to help this wonderful cause,” Bud said, “and to honor a hometown hero who gave his life for others on that horrible day so that others may live. It’s been 14 years since 9/11. Please do not let his memory fade.”
