The Elmont Union Free School District Board of Education held its annual re-organization meeting on July 1 at the district’s administrative offices.

At the meeting, board members Michael Jaime and Anthony Maffea Sr. were re-elected and sworn in as president and vice president for the 2015-16 school year. Also sworn in were trustees Kevin Denehy, Patrick Emeagwali and Leslyn Stewart. Denehy and Emeagwali were also selected to serve as representatives to the Sewanhaka Central High School District’s Board of Education for the upcoming school year.

The board also recognized the retirement of Dutch Broadway teacher Valerie DiMarcantonio, who served the district for 32 years. Superintendent of Schools Al Harper congratulated DiMarcantino and wished her luck in her future endeavors. Harper also lauded the district’s principals on each of their building’s Moving Up ceremonies.

“They were very dignified and wonderful graduation ceremonies,” Harper said. “The children were lovely in their caps and gowns and the ceremonies were great. It was really a proud moment to watch our children move towards Sewanhaka and Elmont high schools.”
