Joseph Armocida, who has been a trustee on the Franklin Square Board of Education for 13 years, has formally been returned to his post as president. He has been president since 2006.

Armocida was re-elected for the post at the board’s reorganization meeting on July 1. Also at the meeting, Jean Fichtl, who has sat on the board for nearly two decades, was formally sworn in as trustee after defeating challenger Joe Lewinger for her seat in May. Helen Hoffman will remain vice president.

Armocida, 54, has been a resident of Franklin Square for 25 years, and has also served on the Sewanhaka Central high School District board since 2007. He lives with his wife of 25 years, Lillian, and his daughter, Nicole. Aside from the board, he has been in the construction industry for 34 years, and is a project executive at TRM Contracting. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of Rebuilding Together NYC since 2003, and has been a member of its executive board since 2007.

Last year, Armocida was a recipient of the New York State School Boards Association Award for Excellence, which recognizes board members who was regular participants in training and the association’s leadership programs. The programs help to keep board members educationally up-to-date, and include both local and statewide seminars and conferences.
