A Franklin Square woman was killed in a car accident on the Long Island Expressway early this morning, New York City Police said.

According to police, Christina Formato, 24, of Franklin Square, was a passenger in a black Infinity that was speeding in the east bound lane, lost control and crashed into a barrier near the Maurice Avenue exit.

The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to split in half and the front portion of the car landed in the east bound lower level section of the highway where it was hit by a 2012 Acura TL, police said.

As a result of the initial collision, a second pile up occurred when a 2015 Kenworth dump truck could not stop in time and collided into five other cars which were stopped before the Infinity collision, police said. The occupant involved in the second collision are listed in stable condition.

Of the five people in the Infinity, three, including Formato, were killed. The other two were transported to Elmhurst General Hospital. One is listed in critical condition and the other is listed as stable.

An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad.
