This year, beach volleyball players won’t have to wait until next summer to resume their fun in the sand. Robert Philips has created an indoor option… for leagues, parties and even a weekend night out.

Phillips, who is a Long Beach resident and a father of four, has played beach volleyball for years. He knows first hand how once the season is over, there’s an air of disappointment. The popularity of the summer sport is huge; there are over 450 Long Island leagues that play on Jones Beach, Long Beach and Cedar Beach, collectively. So, expanding the season to all year long will be a gift to all.

The concept, says Phillips, has received overwhelming response. He secured a warehouse in the Oceanside Sports Complex that formerly held batting cages. It was gutted and divided into a completely new heated and air conditioned facility. Endless Summer Indoor Beach Volleyball will house two volleyball courts with two-foot high sand, a spectator area, and a bar and grill. The menu will include specialty build-your-own hot dogs, salads and paninis.

Players will wear summer attire and of course, go barefoot. Beach volleyball (on sand) also puts much less stress on bones and muscles than traditional indoor volleyball courts.

Leagues are for young adults (late teens, early twenties) and up. Sessions run for eight or ten weeks, depending on the time of year. Most leagues play for an hour, but longer court times can be pre-arranged. Phillips plans to leave Friday and Saturday evening for admission cost for ages 18 and over to ‘hang out and play.’ It’s a great date night idea, since you can have a drink (over 21, please), get something to eat, and play volleyball with your date and/or friends.

Unique party packages are offered. For those from age six to turning 20, the two-hour party can include either volleyball, dodge ball, or beach soccer, an inflatable bouncy house or inflatable slide, pizza or hotdogs, beverages, a private room, and a host. Cake, ice cream, and/or an instructor are additional. Prices are adjusted to the amount of guests and an additional court.

Parties for the over-21 crowd, depending on the package, get more time and food choices, beer and wine, and/or an open bar. Fancier options are the Mexican Riviera Beach Party and the Clam Bake Package. Add-ons can include an instructor, referee, a DJ and even a dance floor.
