Long Beach police arrested a 24-year-old man on Sunday after he allegedly left his 6-year-old nephew at home unattended while he went to the gym.

Police told the Herald that the boy's uncle, David Soto Gomez, was in charge of caring for his nephew at a home on East Fulton Street while the child’s mother, Gomez’s sister, was working.

Police said they were informed that the child was alone at 12:20 p.m., and that Gomez had left his nephew for at least an hour. Police responded to the scene, and said that the boy was unharmed and remained in the care of his mother

Gomez was charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned at Long Beach City Court on Monday and released on $500 cash bail.
