Queens woman scammed Elmont business

Nassau County Police have arrested a Queens woman for stealing money from an Elmont company while she was employed there from Oct. 2 through Jan. 26.

According to detectives, Mary Camuti, 66, of Rosedale, had on six occasions, altered her paycheck showing a larger amount and then cashed the checks. As a way to cover her crime, Camuti them made false payments to vendors on the company’s accounting system causing the company to suffer a total loss of $17,000.

She is charged with grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument. She was arraigned on April 19 in First District Court in Hempstead.
