Wright is now back at work for the Town of Hempstead where he is an attorney and will also be kept busy by his son, who was born on Monday. In running for elected office, Wright said he learned a lot about himself and how to conduct himself on a campaign trial. “I wasn’t perfect,” he said, “but I was better than I thought I’d be.

He congratulated Solages on her victory and said he will sit down with his staff in the near future to discuss the possibility of running for elected office again.

Before she formally takes office on Jan. 1, Solages will be busy meeting and thanking residents of her district, as well as looking for a spot for her new office. She will be attending civic and board of trustees meetings, in addition to sitting down with community members to see how she can help.

During her travels on the campaign trail, Solages would stand outside of schools and talk with parents. While meeting some new people, she also noticed some unsafe road crossings outside several schools in the district.

“I want to make sure we put more features by our schools to make sure our kids get to school safely,” she said. Solages plans on touring each school in the 22nd Assembly District to make sure the crossings are safe at each one.

Solages, who has been a lifelong resident of Elmont, recently put in her letter of resignation for her position at Hofstra University in order to focus full time on her role as assemblywoman.

“I’m honored that they chose me to represent their interests in Albany,” she said of residents in the 22nd Assembly District, “and my door is always open.”
