Suffolk man charged with burglary

Fourth Squad detectives report the arrest of a Central Islip man for two burglaries that occurred in Elmont on Sunday, May 24.

According to detectives, at 7:15 a.m., Fifth Precinct police officers responded to a home on Hoffman Avenue, for a suspicious man knocking and yelling at the front door. When police arrived, Ludgy Rely, 24, of Oakdale Avenue, was found at the rear of the home pulling out shards of glass from a broken window and trying to get inside. The homeowner was not at present during the burglary. Two plastic bags were recovered from the interior side of the window, containing a gold ciborium cup and bowl. Subsequent investigation revealed that at approximately 6 a.m., the defendant had broken a window at St. Boniface Church located at 631 Elmont Road, entered the church and removed the above listed items.

The defendant was treated at the scene for minor lacerations to his hands and face due to the broken window.

Rely is being charged with second-degree burglary (attempted), third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree criminal mischief. He was to have been arraigned on Monday, May 25 in First District Court, Hempstead.
