Long Beach races to rebuild

The third annual Long Beach Community 5K and Kids' Race on Oct. 29 highlights the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Sandy. The event is conducted by Race2Rebuild, a nonprofit that raises money through endurance races to help displaced homeowners rebuild after natural disasters nationwide.

The race takes place on the boardwalk starting at New York Avenue at 8:30 a.m. Organized in conjunction with the city, the race marks the fifth Race2Rebuild event in Long Beach since 2014 aimed at supporting ongoing rebuilding efforts in town. An after-party with raffle prizes will be held at Shine’s Bar. Register on race morning beginning at 7:30 a.m., or online at www.race2rebuild.org/2016-events.

Money raised from the 5K will go toward next spring's annual race and rebuilding events, which in the past two years have attracted hundreds of athletes and volunteers who aided in the rebuilding of several homes for Long Beach families.
