The Seaford Chamber of Commerce honored John Scannello and Ralph and Claudio Facchini at the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce Breakfast on Oct. 19.

Scannello, and Ralph and Claudio Facchini are partners at Seaford Hot Bagels on Merrick Road. The trio all grew up in East Meadow and have been friends for 60 years. They were honored for the shop’s service to the Seaford community, Scannello said.

“In the Seaford community we strive to not just be a bagel store but to be an active member of the community,” he said.

Seaford Bagels contributes to 9/11 fundraisers in the Seaford, Wantagh and Massapequa area, according to Scannello. They also participate in fundraisers for children who have diseases, parents who pass away and more. The store contributes to church and temple fundraisers in the area, as well as school events and programs. Seaford Bagels also contributed to an Easter event at the Seaford library.

“Pretty much anybody who comes to us from the Seaford, Wantagh, Massapequa area we contribute to in various ways,” Scannello said. “Some of it is money and some of it is in product.”

Seaford Bagels opened in 1993 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary, Scannello said.

Scannello was pleased to be honored by the Seaford community at the breakfast. “We got to be recognized by not only the Seaford community but all of the other Chambers of Commerce throughout Nassau County,” he said.

Scannello and Ralph Facchini attended the breakfast and “enjoyed it immensely”, according to Scannello. Claudio Facchini was unable to attend. The honorees were able to meet and speak with many of the local and state elected officials.

Scannello said the breakfast was well attended and well organized. “It was a nice event,” he said. “It’s always nice to be honored. It was great.”

“The Seaford Chamber of Commerce are honored to have Seaford Hot Bagels as part of our Community for 25 years,” Chamber of Commerce President Karen Cass said. “It is great to see John Scannello and Ralph and Claudio Facchini receive the Business Person of the Year Award. There aren’t three more deserving individuals who have worked harder, longer hours and given back to their community.”
