Jared Bloom: It's been a busy summer

Posted

Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to meet many of our staff, students and parents. For those who I have not had the opportunity to meet, I look forward to spending time in each of the buildings and attending all of the district and Parent Teacher Association functions throughout the school year.

All three of our schools were bustling with activity over the summer as we welcomed over 700 campers and students to our Summer Recreation and Summer ISP programs. Our administrators enjoyed visiting each of the buildings, watching the marimbas concert, participating in ISP Field Day and seeing the smiles on the faces of our children as they received an animal balloon or had their face painted. I want to again thank our amazing team, who has helped to create memories that will last in our young students’ minds for a lifetime.

With the close of summer programs and the various construction projects, our custodial teams have been working extra hard to make sure the buildings are ready for staff and students. Our clerical staff has been putting in countless hours to prepare schedules, mailings and take phone calls. We thank them all for their hard work and know that their hard work will be appreciated by all.

This summer we also began the first phase of the bathroom renovation project, which was approved by voters as part of the Capital Improvement Reserve. In addition, work continued on our air conditioning projects at three buildings.

Additionally, a group of 18 teachers met with Nancy Letts to develop Socratic seminars in the content areas of math, science, social studies and English Language Arts, and our Curriculum Office has been busy preparing for new programs and curriculum to support the Next Generation Science Standards in grades 3 - 6. This year, fifth-grade students will also have the opportunity to participate in an after school junior robotics program where they will be introduced to coding and an introduction to robotics. We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to sharing more news with you throughout the year.

To that end, our social media accounts are now active. We are asking the community to follow us @officialFSUFSD on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. In addition to posting pictures throughout the school year, these accounts will also be used to make important announcements.

We hope you will follow us and help us by spreading the word.

Our staff is looking forward to welcoming your children back to school for another exciting year of learning.
