At the St. Catherine of Sienna Center in Franklin Square on Aug. 20, the Knights of Columbus Twelve Apostles hosted a blood drive in memory of William Rottkamp, who was a Franklin Square resident and original organizer of the event.
Because of Rottkamp's efforts, the Twelve Apostles awarded Rottkamp's widow, Ruth, with a recognition plaque.
Rottkamp began organizing the blood drive, which started about 30 years ago, Apostles officials said.
Since his death in 2015, the Twelve Apostles have continued the drive. This year, through the Red Cross, the drive was officially named after him and will continue to carry his name.
The next blood drive is in Feb. 2018 at the St. Catherine of Sienna church.
