Lakeview resident arrested for weapon, drug possession

Lakeview resident Deryck Rhodes was arrested by Nassau County police for an incident that occurred on June 29 in Lakeview.
According to police, officers responded to call for a man walking near Langdon Boulevard and Lafayette Avenue with a black handgun. As officers arrived, they approached a man who matched the description and a brief foot pursuit ensued. While running from the officers, Rhodes, 49, of 531 Jefferson Ave., was observed throwing a black handgun onto the front lawn of a residence on Langdon Boulevard. Rhodes was taken into custody without further incident. The handgun was recovered by assisting officers. During the foot pursuit, one officer suffered a minor injury and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Rhodes was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a firearm, assault in the second degree and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was arraigned was last month.
