Lynbrook businesses celebrate spring with ribbon cuttings

Posted

A pair of ribbon cuttings were hosted in Lynbrook on April 14 to acknowledge two unique businesses in the downtown area.

Mixology Clothing Company, at 42 Broadway, and The Rustic Loft, at 420 Sunrise Highway, put on the events.

The Mixology Warehouse opened in Lynbrook in February, but the corporate offices have been in the village for three years. There are nine locations in the tristate area. The company was founded by Jonathan and Rene Shapiro in 2012, and is co-owned by Jordan and Gabrielle Edwards, who are siblings. The business offers a variety of trendy items, including T-shirts, jeans, dresses and accessories.

Jonathan Shapiro said hundreds of residents came to the store during the ribbon cutting event.

“It was very successful in terms of selling clothing,” he said, “but most importantly, it was successful in integrating Mixology into the fabric of Lynbrook and the amazing people who live and work here.”

The event was the conclusion of spring kickoff week, in which the business held various sales with portions of the proceeds benefitting others. They included a donation for Christopher Ambrosio, a Lynbrook teenager who was diagnosed with hemophilia, a rare blood disorder, fundraisers for the Lynbrook kick line and lacrosse teams, an event showcasing restaurants in the village and a benefit for the Lynbrook Police Department. In all $10,000 was raised for the causes.

Shapiro said the motivation behind the kickoff events was to bring the community together and give him an opportunity to meet his neighbors. He added that his children attend the Lynbrook School District.

Both ribbon cuttings were attended by Mayor Alan Beach and the board of trustees, Town of Hempstead Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, Assemblyman Brian Curran and members of the Chamber of Commerce.

About 50 people came to the event at the Rustic Loft.

“It was great,” said owner Leo Cacciatore, who grew up in East Rockaway and now lives in Lynbrook, where he volunteers for the Fire Department. “Everything was wonderful.”

Cacciatore’s family founded the Rustic Loft after spending three decades manufacturing kitchens, vanities, wall units and hotel furniture. The pieces are high quality and can be customized to fit the needs and desires of the consumer.

Mixology is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Rustic Loft is open from 10:30 a.m. through 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. It is closed on Mondays.
