Talented East Rockaway artists, performers on display at Waterfront Art Walk

On a warm night on Oct. 4 on Dock Street, many of East Rockaway’s young artists and performers showed off their talent at the East Rockaway Cultural Arts Council’s Waterfront Art Walk.

Musicians performed as artists and photographers displayed their work to the hundreds of residents who came throughout the evening, including Mayor Bruno Romano and his board of trustees. About 18 students from East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School and St. Raymond’s Parochial School displayed their work along with about 14 local artists.

“The students really get a lot out of it,” said Cindy Lark, an event organizer and the village’s deputy clerk. “It feels good for them to be able to show their work and have other people appreciate it. Some students even sell their art, so that’s pretty exciting for them.”

The East Rockaway Public Library was also involved and hosted a bookmark-making contest for the younger guests.

Lark said it was a very successful event and will likely lead to more art shows in the future. “With each event we’ve done — this is the fourth art show that we’ve done — and each time the attendance has been bigger,” she said. “So we’re heading in the right direction.”
