The Baldwin Public Library’s proposed 2014-15 budget exceeds the cap on its tax levy increase, but for good reasons. The building is in need of infrastructure upgrades, and if the $4.19 million spending plan is approved, its four boilers will be replaced and new, energy-efficient windows will be installed in the main reading room. Although the proposed 5.36 percent tax levy increase is high, the revenue is needed to fund these essential projects.
The library is an important part of the Baldwin community for residents of all ages, offering a wide range of resources and programs. We wholeheartedly support its budget.
