A Merrick Post Office worker Wednesday sold cannabis to a woman from out of a mail truck in the parking lot of Merrick’s Post Office, according to police.

Nassau County Police Department officers said they saw Jennie Pappas, 24, of Wantagh, meet Post Office employee Jimmy Henry, 29, of Freeport, in the rear parking lot of Merrick’s Post Office, at 2040 Merrick Road. Henry entered a Post Office truck, retrieved a silver container and handed it to Pappas, police said. Pappas returned to her vehicle, and when police approached her they saw “the silver grinder and a greenish brown substance believed to be marijuana on her lap,” according to a news release.

The officers reportedly contacted U.S. Postal Service authorities and received permission to search the truck Henry had entered. Inside the officers found a black bag containing “a substance believed to be marijuana,” the release said.

The police arrested Henry and Pappas and issued both appearance tickets due on April 23 in Nassau County’s First District Court in Hempstead. The pair are charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Henry was also charged with criminal sale of marijuana.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Service confirmed that Henry was an employee at the time of his arrest, but she said she could not comment on his current employee status.
