When the Freeport Public Schools open on Sept. 8 for the 2015-16 year, students will be able to take advantage of the curriculum and facility enhancements.“We begin this school year filled with hope, vision and excitement,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham. “Our children will have opportunities to challenge themselves, and we will continue on the path to success as they develop new skills, acquire more knowledge and deepen their comprehension of their community and the world. Together, we will make this the best year yet for Freeport Public Schools.”

Several curricular updates throughout the district are in place for the fall. Freeport High School is offering three new Advanced Placement courses — Art History, Environmental Science and Spanish Literature — and new dual-enrollment courses through Farmingdale State College for which students earn both high school and college credit. There are now 15 dual-enrollment courses offered at the high school. In addition, the Engineering by Design course at the high school has been expanded, and new curriculum modules in English language arts for grades 9-12 have been implemented. Electives in social studies and technology and classes for special needs and ELL students have been added as well. At the elementary level, a new writing curriculum has been rolled out for grades K-5, a new computer coding curriculum is being introduced for grade four, and a newly revised prekindergarten English language arts curriculum will be implemented. Districtwide, Smart TVs will be used to complement academic lessons.
