Gun fired on West Merrick Road

The First Squad reports an arrest for reckless endangerment on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 9 a.m. in Freeport.

According to detectives, Freeport patrol officers responded to 3 West Merrick Road for a disturbance. Responding officers in the rear of that address stopped Marcell Torres, 31, of N. Long Beach Avenue. An investigation revealed he had been in an argument with his brother, Eric J. Torres, 29, who shot several rounds from a handgun out of a window at the defendant, striking the victim’s windshield and a passing Nassau County ambulance.

Nassau County Police Bureau of Special Operations, along with Emergency Service Units, First Precinct officers and detectives responded to the scene to assist.

Eric Torres refused to leave his apartment for one and a half hours before surrendering at the scene. No injuries were reported. During the investigation it was discovered that Marcell Torres had an open Nassau County warrant.

Eric Torres is charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree reckless endangerment. He is also charged with third-degree criminal mischief from an unrelated incident on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and two open Nassau County warrants.

Marcell Torres was arrested at scene for the open warrant.
