The Homicide Squad reports the details of a fatal vehicular accident that occurred at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, in Freeport.

According to detectives, witnesses observed the male victim operating a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle at a high rate of speed southbound on North Main Street. The victim attempted a lane change and struck the rear driver’s side corner of the flat bed of a tow truck that was double parked in the roadway in front of 43 N. Main Street. The victim, Edgar Menendez, 33, of Smith Street in Freeport, suffered multiple chest injuries and was pronounced deceased at scene. The motorcycle was impounded for a brake and safety inspection. The tow truck driver was issued a Freeport traffic ticket for a double-parked violation.
