L.I. Crisis Center goes mobile

The Bellmore-based Long Island Crisis Center has launched a new website featuring ChatLIVE Long Island, a service providing crisis counseling from any high-tech device.

Since 1971, Long Island Crisis Center has provided suicide-prevention and crisis-intervention counseling for thousands of Long Islanders at critical times in their lives. Operating seven of the region’s busiest crisis hotlines, Long Island Crisis Center meets clients ”where they are.” These days, that means meeting them on mobile-friendly platforms.

“For the past 44 years, it has been the philosophy of Long Island Crisis Center to be on the cutting-edge in order to meet the changing needs of our community,” said Executive Director Linda Leonard. “This is why we are so proud to introduce ChatLIVE Long Island, our expanded online and mobile counseling service. Now Long Islanders in crisis can connect live with a counselor from any computer, tablet or smartphone.”
The Crisis Center addresses many of the critical issues facing Long Islanders today: suicide, depression, substance abuse, domestic violence and sexual orientation, among others.

ChatLIVE Long Island launches in conjunction with the agency’s new mobile-friendly website, which can be found at www.longislandcrisiscenter.org. With a single click, a user can learn about LICC’s programs and initiatives, find out how to become a volunteer, connect on social media or chat live with a trained crisis counselor.

“‘Any problem, anytime, anyone’ has long been the motto of Long Island Crisis Center,” said Development Director Fran Karliner. “Now we can add one more item to that list: anywhere.With the introduction of ChatLIVE Long Island, we’ll now be able to serve and connect with Long Islanders in crisis no matter where they are –– at home, in the office or on the school bus.”

Founded in 1971, long Island Crisis Center provides 24/7, free, confidential and non-judgmental programs and services to support and empower Long Islanders at critical times in their lives. These include crisis counseling, programming for LGBTQ youth, community education workshops and special initiatives for at-risk populations.
