Richner Communications, Long Island’s largest publisher of community media, has acquired the assets of the Gold Coast Gazette, a weekly community newspaper covering the legendary Gold Coast communities on the North Shore of Long Island. The terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Established in 1991 by the mother and son team of Patricia Horton (who passed away in April, 2009) and Kevin Horton, the Gold Coast Gazette has become a staple on the North Shore. The Gazette covers the City of Glen Cove, the Village of Sea Cliff, Glen Head, Glenwood Landing and Locust Valley. It is the official newspaper of the City of Glen Cove and the Village of Sea Cliff.

“We started the Gazette with a belief in hometown news with strong journalistic integrity,” said Horton. “Our first issue featured a Glen Cove kindergarten class with the headline, ‘A thousand mile journey.’ It truly has been a thousand mile journey ... And I’m happy to pass the torch to Stuart and Cliff Richner.

“The Richner family is part of our family,” said Horton. “They’ve been printing the Gold Coast Gazette since our first edition through their Richner Printing division — it’s an honor to hand over the reins to family.”

“We are delighted to continue the legacy of the Gold Coast Gazette as an independent, family run newspaper covering the hometown news people have grown to love,” said Stuart Richner, president of Richner Communications.

“The Gazette has become a staple in the community and we plan to continue the Hortons’ commitment to journalistic integrity,” said Publisher Cliff Richner.

The Gold Coast Gazette’s web site, www.GoldCoastGazette.net, as well as the phone number, (516) 671-2360, will remain the same.

Richner Communications publishes the 17 Herald Community Newspapers and their associated websites on the South Shore of Nassau County as well as LIHerald.com. In addition, it publishes the Pulitzer Prize winning Riverdale Press in the Bronx, the Oyster Bay Guardian and the Jewish Star, which serves the Orthodox Jewish Communities of Long Island.

The company also publishes 10 editions of PrimeTime shopping guides, Xpress Coups coupon books and Long Beach Magazine. Richner Printing, its printing and mailing division, prints daily and weekly newspapers, specialty publications, and newsletters from throughout the Tri-State region, as well as general, high volume, commercial printing and mailing. Founded by Robert and Edith Richner, Richner Communications has been owned by the Richner family since 1964.
