Nearly two and a half years after Hurricane Sandy devastated the homes and lives of New York and New Jersey residents, Race2Rebuild’s next Run, Ride, Rebuild event will be held on Saturday, April 18, in Long Beach. The event, sponsored by HGTV, DIY Network and Optimum Community, is presented in partnership with the City of Long Beach, Rebuilding Together Long Island and 1156Run.

Race2Rebuild is an endurance, charity program founded by volunteer athletes in the aftermath of Sandy to support rebuilding efforts and bring families home following natural disasters. Participants in Run, Ride, Rebuild may race a 5K by either running or walking, or tackle a duathlon made up of running, biking and running legs. By participating in a Run, Ride, Rebuild event, athletes can turn their training, miles, energy and races into change by helping to raise funds which will provide critical renovations to a home impacted by natural disaster and bring a family home.

To date, the Race2Rebuild team has raised over $100,000 and has supported or participated in more than ten rebuilding projects.

“We are proud to return to Long Beach for our next Run, Ride, Rebuild event and honored to help the community move its Hurricane Sandy recovery forward with the support of HGTV, DIY Network and Optimum Community in partnership with the City of Long Beach, Rebuilding Together Long Island and 1156Run,” Sarah Hartmann, president of Race2Rebuild, said in a statement.

“Thousands of families in the New York and New Jersey area are still recovering. Our athletes have raced hard to help raise funds and awareness for communities recovering from disaster,” she added. “To meet the families we support and help rebuild their homes is a truly inspiring moment and reinforces our commitment to every family affected by Hurricane Sandy.”

Residents are invited join participants and attend the post-race Community Breakfast and Resource Expo at the Long Beach Catholic Regional School yard, at 735 West Broadway. Race2Rebuild pro athlete ambassadors, elected officials and other representatives will address the attendees before the volunteer work commences.
