Monday, June 30, marked the first day of summer camp at the Freeport Recreation Center. Parents and children arrived bright and early, as session one of camp was to begin. The Freeport Recreation Center offers full and half day options for children age 3 to those about to enter the 7th grade in the fall. Hours for half-day sessions are 9 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Full-day camp is 9 to 4. Early and after extended child-care is available. The center offers four, two-week sessions of camp, which will run through Aug. 22. Camp activities include swimming, sports, arts and crafts and music. The recreation center has an indoor pool as well as three outdoor swimming pools, gymnasium and indoor turf field, allowing for camp fun, rain or shine.

Special activities and entertainment are also scheduled during each session.  Campers, grades 5 to 7, venture off-site once a week for a special trip to include Adventure Land, bowling and Mets and Yankees ballgames. Full-day campers may purchase lunch/snack on premises or bring a brown-bag lunch from home.
